Amazon.com As a pleasant dose of holiday cheer, The Holiday is a lovable love story with all the Christmas trimmings. In the capable hands of writer-director Nancy Meyers (making her first romantic comedy since Something's Gotta Give), it all begins when two successful yet unhappy women connect through a home-swapping website, and decide to trade houses for the Christmas holiday in a mutual effort to forget their man troubles. Iris (Kate Winslet) is a London-based journalist who lives in a picture-postcard cottage in Surrey, and Amanda (Cameron Diaz) owns a movie-trailer production company (leading her to cutely imagine most of her life as a "coming attraction") and lives in a posh mansion in Beverly Hills. Iris is heartbroken from unrequited love with a cad of a colleague (Rufus Sewell), and Amanda has just broken up with her cheating boyfriend (Edward Burns), so their home-swapping offers mutual downtime to reassess their love lives. This being a Nancy Meyers movie (where everything is fabulously decorated and romantic wish-fulfillment is virtually guaranteed), Amanda hooks up with Iris's charming brother Graham (Jude Law), and Iris is unexpectedly smitten with Miles (Jack Black), a super-nice film composer on the downside of a failing relationship. --Jeff Shannon Extras from The Holiday First Look Featurettehigh bandwidth | Film Clip: "Sushi for Two"high bandwidth | Film Clip: "Oh Brother"high bandwidth | Stills from The Holiday (click for larger image) !-- end6pak --> Beyond The Holiday on Amazon.com On Blu-ray | CD Soundtrack | The Films of Nancy Meyers |

Thoroughly Enjoyable Romantic Comedy! December 31, 2008 Andrea L. Polk (Southern Oregon) This is one of my all-time favorite films. It's tender, funny, romantic and all with a happy ending that you don't mind watching over and over again! The Holiday (2006) [Blu-ray] has great stars who all come off as likeable and interesting. Jude Law is at his sexiest in this one, even with Cameron Diaz as his love interest. Cameron's character was the one I liked the least, but even her acting (or lack of...) couldn't come close to ruining this one for me. Jack Black isn't his usual goofy guy, but rather a gentle 'good guy' who befriends the lovely Kate Winslet while she's on 'holiday' retreating from an impossible love affair. Sweet and charming, this film is a wonderful date movie or chick flick for any time of the year.
I NEVER received this item!!! December 25, 2008 Christine N. Kneese (Harbor Springs, MI) I ordered The Holiday weeks ago and it never arrived in time for Christmas. What do I do????
How could you not love this movie? December 24, 2008 J. Bluhm (Flint, MI, USA) I have to say that I was not to thrilled to see this movie for one reason--Cameron Diaz. Just not a fan. However, I gave in to the peer pressure and I watched it, and loved it! Cameron was awesome! Jude Law was so sweet and warm, Kate Winslet was so real and very charming and (in my opinion) this was Jack Black's best role! He was adorable! Someone you would take home to meet your parents! Of course everything ends, "Happily Ever After," but at Christmas, how can you not love a movie like that? If you haven't seen it and you like romantic comedies, you're truly missing out!
Watchable over & over again! December 21, 2008 Sante E Volve (honolulu) The Holiday is a warm movie that has tinctures of compassionate and caring threads woven in - such as kate's friendship with an octogenarian neighbor. The quaint english cottage is tiny and adorable - especially the bathtub bathroom, the shmaltzy voice of cameron's subconscious is a hilarious detail and the snow driven english countryside is evocative of the classic xmas card scenes. I found jack black miscast and unbelievable as cameron's ex though he did a creditable job throughout. The movie shows women redrawing their relationship boundaries into a healthier shape, as more self love and positive energy shines through. A great feel good movie!
beautiful movie! December 21, 2008 Elizabeth LaTrace This is a sweet love story! Any romantic will love a glass of wine and this movie! A great addition to any collection!
