Where are the deleted scenes? September 7, 2010 P Magnum 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Keira Knightley is a revelation here. Watch as she responds to Mr. Darcy when he asks what she'd recommend to encourage affection... amazing! Likewise, Matthew MacFadyen is just so much more manly and plays a more layered Darcy - proud, brooding, conflicted, honorable, but also shy, even socially inept - than Colin Firth. And he does it ever so subtly... just a twitch of his lips, a blink of his eyes. With his handsome face, strong built, and that voice... there is no need for a wet shirt scene to make women and less manly men swoon! (By the way, I will never understand why some complain about the extra ending scene, when MacFadyen's bare calves look so much more attractive than Firth's wet shirt. I was too young in 1995, but did anyone complain about the lake scene then? I rest my case.)
The picture quality is also very very good. I was surprised to find the doggie at Caroline Bingley's feet (I completely missed that in the DVD version). Throw in the wonderful supporting cast, beautiful locations, divine editing, and that scene of battle in the rain... I'm in heaven! Why not five (5) stars? Well, as every P&P fan shall agree, this blu-ray does NOT meet expectations in the EXTRA FEATURES department. We don't get the original goodies from the original DVD release: no P&P diaries (although the Politics of Dating is interesting). But worst, worst, worst of all is that the highly anticipated deleted scenes are not included!!!!! Mr. Wright, we shan't mind watching extra shots of bonnets and carriages! I'm hoping -- nay, praying -- that they will issue a special edition at some point. Why, I promise to pay whatever their price... if only they add the deleted scenes that we know exist!
Great movie! August 31, 2010 jana It was hard to buy the DVD in stone stores so I was happy to find it in here.
DVD came in perfect condition. No problems.
I read the book recently and I heard that the movie is great as well. And it is true. I enjoyed it very much!
Great Classic August 30, 2010 cheryl.momofthree 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Loved it! This proves that you can make a powerfully romantic movie without showing inappropriate scenes in the bedroom.
Love Jane Austen August 27, 2010 Heather Clemons (High Springs, FL) I really love Jane Austen novels and so far have loved almost all movie renditions (except for 1999's Mansfield Park). Really liked Matthew Macfadyen as Mr. Darcy... so broody!
It could be perfect August 24, 2010 J. A. Knott (WILLASTON, SOUTH AUSTRALIA Australia) I love this film and saw it several times at the cinema. I even bought a bigger television especially for when this film came out on dvd and I love it as well as the Colin Firth mini-servies AND the book. I bought a copy and then ordered the 2 disc special edition. This film, to my utter horror has the "American" ending with the unlikely scene of Mr and Mrs Darcy "making out" in front of the lake at Pemberley, most un-Jane Austen like and an option to view with my original copy which I shall now watch in preference. The cast is wonderful, the music, everything but THAT ending.
